Growing up on the south side of Chicago, in a neighborhood where hard work was the daily bread, my journey into the culinary world began far from the gleaming kitchens of gourmet restaurants. In a bustling home where my mother, with limited means, creatively nourished 11 children plus herself and my father, I learned the foundational lessons of cooking. As the youngest boy in such a large family, the kitchen became my arena of discovery and innovation, where love was served by the spoonful and necessity-mothered invention.
My late start in cooking didn't deter my eventual passion; it fueled it. What began as a necessity in a crowded household evolved into a profound love affair with the culinary arts. My path has shown me that food is more than sustenance; it's a language of love, creativity, and community.
